ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL A8 AUDI

Operation:
The speed control sender G259 transmits the
frequency-modulated signal and receives the
reflected signal. The control unit processes
the radar signals and other additional input
signals. These signals are used to determine
the relevant vehicle in front for control purposes
from all the objects in the radar detection
range.

17
The position and speed of the vehicle, as well
as the current distance, are established. The
necessary control action is derived from this
data and the appropriate information transmitted
to the Motronic control unit J220,
automatic gearbox control unit J217 and ESPimage
control unit J104.
The data are transferred by way of the distance
control CAN and diagnosis interface for
data bus (gateway) J533 to the drive system
CAN.

Cover for distance control sender
The cover of the speed control sender in the
bumper trim panel is made of radar-permeable
material.
Any surface changes, such as subsequent painting or the attachment of stickers or other
items may lead to malfunctions.
The cover can be heated to prevent possibleimage
malfunctioning due to snow a

Operation and driver information concept

Operating and display concept
Operation is by way of the adaptive cruise
control stalk on the left side of the steering
column.

The display concept includes three display
blocks:

All important information is always centrally
displayed in the speedometer.

image

Important information of relevance to the
system which does not have to be displayed
permanently on account of its infrequent
occurrence appears on the info line in the
centre display of the dash panel insert.

Additional information giving details of system
functions can be called up by the driverimage
in an extra display. This involves pressing the
RESET button on the underside of the wiper
stalk.

A distinction is made between 4 system statuses (modes):
ACC OFF
The system is deactivated and system operation is not possible.
ACC READY
This mode represents a standby status. The system remains switched on but no active control
takes place. If adaptive cruise control had previously been active, the desired speed is present
in the memory.
ACC ACTIVE
The adaptive cruise control implements the set speed (on an open road) or regulates the distance
from the vehicle in front.
ACC OVERRIDE
The driver exceeds the set speed by pressing the accelerator.

186 mph Alpina-fettled BMW 3 series

The twin-turbo, 400-horsepower Alpina B3S has been let loose on the UK market. With just about 400 pound-feet to get you off the line you'll get from 0-to-60 in 4.7 seconds. That might not sound too impressive for an Alpina, but you'll be able to hang with Porsche Carrera S's, and that's not bad for a 3 Series. Staying away from hard going will get you another impressive number, though: 24.2 combined miles per gallon (29.1 Imperial).
The Alpina B3S is offered in Saloon, Touring, Coupe and Convertible, with deliveries beginning in July. Follow the jump for the full press release and have a look at it in the gallery of high-res photos below

$17M order for ten Aston Martin supercars puts allegedly by Mystery buyer

If you have the money, influence and inherent coolness to purchase one of the 77 Aston Martin On 77 super mega cars, it would be a good idea to put in your order as soon as humanly possible. That's because while a limited run of 77 vehicles makes for a very exclusive exotic car club, one buyer may have made it even harder to join the sacred One-77 fraternity.
The Times of London reports that one buyer, believed to be of Middle-Eastern descent, has purchased 10 of the 77 super Astons. The buyer is reportedly picking up 13 percent of one of the rarest new rides on the planet, but the models will each be differentiated by color and interior trim.
The folks at Aston Martin aren't spilling the beans on who the buyer could be, so this One-77-hoarding mad man lucky dog looks to be shucking the spotlight, at least for now. The total price for the 10 One-77s is $17 million, but now that the market for the most exotic of Astons has just shrunk by 10 units, we're thinking that the secret owner's collection could make all the 7.3-liter V12-powered One-77s more valuable. Thanks for the tip, David!

How Electronic Power Steering (EPS) Works?

What is power steering?

Power steering is a system which helps to steer the wheels with some source of power other than the drivers manual force with which he turns the steering. This feature adds to the comfort while driving as less effort is needed to turn the steering by the driver. Power Steering is specially important for the cars which have engine in front and there is a lot of weight on the front wheels.

Hydraulic Power Steering

Hydraulic power steering uses high pressure fluids for assisting the steering movement. It uses a plunger type arrangement for its working. When the driver turns the steering wheel, it opens up the flow or pressurized fluid in such a way that helps to turns the wheels in the required direction.

Electric Power Steering

Electric power steering works with the help of an Electric Motor and a control unit which has some sensors. The motor runs on battery and will use electric power to assist the movement of steering when the driver turns the wheel.

Hydraulic Power Steering V/S Electric Power Steering

Hydraulic power steering is a primitive technology used for decades and has improved a lot with time. Earlier, it did not have any difference in steering response with speed of the car, but the new age of hydraulic power steering are speed sensitive and work better than the older hydraulic power steering.

Some of the main differences are as below:

1. Hydraulic Power Steering System is complicated compared with Electric Power Steering
but Electric power steering is also complicated if problem occurred due to more expensive
    Compare to Hydraulic.

2. Hydraulic Power Steering System usually weighs more than Electric Power Steering

3. Hydraulic Power Steering uses hydraulic fluids for operation whereas there is no such fluid needed for Electric Power Steering, thus Electric Power Steering needs less maintenance compared to hydraulic power steering.

4. Electric Power Steering gives better response at different speeds as compared to Hydraulic Power Steering

5. Hydraulic power steering extracts power from engine, so it reduces the fuel mileage of the engine. Electric power steering consumes power from battery which is also charged by engine, but it consumes less power compared to Hydraulic power steering. So a car having Electric power steering will give more mileage than one with Hydraulic power steering.

Google Street View cars collected personal data over Wi-Fi, entire fleet grounded.

Google Street View
Big Brother is always watching. Or listening. Or maybe just nabbing some info off of your unsecured Wi-Fi network. Google has officially grounded its fleet of Street View cars after discovering that the rolling tech stations were inadvertently sampling data from open Wi-Fi networks. How did this happen? According to a post on the search giant's blog, a piece of errant code found its way into the same program that Google uses to help pinpoint businesses in your area. As a result, tiny snippets of information were stored in the halls of Googledom as the Street View cars rolled through towns and cities all over the globe. The company says that it was never looked at and that it wants to delete the information as soon as it gets the OK from authorities.

Campanga T Rex 14R On Road

Compare New Car Prices from Dealers Near You!

First Drive: Campagna T-Rex 14R

Campanga T Rex 14R Panning

So often, we test vehicles that could easily do with 10 to 20 percent more power. Not the Campagna T-Rex 14R three-wheeler. It's got as much as it needs. Spool the engine up to 5000 rpm, pop the clutch, and you'll be piercing the 60-mph barrier in just 3.9 seconds. That's supercar territory -- a time that would embarrass many an exotic with Italian and German pedigrees.

Campanga T Rex 14Rpanning 1

But the T-Rex is not a car. In fact, in North America, where it's built -- Canada to be precise -- it's registered as a motorcycle by the Department of Transportation. The design has been around for well over a decade, taking the name Campagna when the Canadian firm bought the rights in 2008. First unveiled to the Japanese audience at last year's Tokyo Motor Show, we decided to take the 14R for a spin in the mountains south of Tokyo.

BMW M3 GTS out of the runway

The BMW M3 GTS is expected to carry some serious track cred. The extremely limited edition Bimmer packs 450 horsepower from a 4.4-liter V8 engine, while weight is cut by 419 lbs compared to a typical M3. Sounds like a dream come true. But if you planned on picking up one of the 90 M3 GTS models costing 115,000 Euro ($145,000 in U.S. funds), you're too late. The most capable E92 M3 is already sold out, but you can at least hit the jump to see video of a bright orange GTS as its takes on the famed Nürburgring.
In the BMW-produced video, M3 test engineer Günter Sillinger takes the GTS for a spin around the 'Ring, then tells us just how great the high-strung coupe handles. Sillinger may be biased, but since we may never get behind the wheel of one of the select GTS coupes, we'll have to take his word for it when he says, "It's the most uncompromising, fastest and thrilling M3 ever." Follow the jump to watch the 2:19 video for yourself.

MUNICH — BMW's M GmbH subsidiary has launched the M3 GTS, a more powerful, stripped-down yet street-legal edition of the M3 Coupe designed specifically for club sport racing.

The M group has increased displacement of the M3's V8 engine from 4.0 to 4.4 liters, boosting output to 444 horsepower and torque to 325 pound-feet. Mated to a modified version of BMW's seven-speed M Dual Clutch Transmission, the engine propels the M3 GTS from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4.4 seconds. Top speed is 190 mph.

Kay Segler, CEO of BMW M, observes: "Our aim was to develop a model variant that would prove its outstanding potential both on the road and at club sport racing events. The BMW M3 GTS is pure M feeling, embodying the brand values in a highly concentrated form."

Built at the M GmbH manufacturing facility in Garching, Germany, the M3 GTS will be priced from $172,000, including tax, when it goes on sale officially in July. Right-hand-drive variants for the U.K. market will be available next January
